Tuesday Tip: Breakfast

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  Not sure who “they” are, but I can tell you that my trainer, dietitian, and mother all agree.

I never put stock in breakfast because I’m usually running back to the apartment to grab my phone, hoping I don’t get a ticket as my car idles outside.  If I’m lucky, I can scarf down a granola bar (or better yet, a latte) before I get lost in tons of e-mails, only to realize it’s 2pm and I’m starving.  And because time has flown by, my first instinct is to hit the drive through so I don’t snap at someone in a fit of hanger.

For me, the challenge with breakfast really stems from my biggest weakness:  laziness.  There’s nothing I love more than fresh egg whites, crispy bacon, and cheese on a soft roll.  But the truth is that’s neither healthy, nor is it quick to make.  That and it’s not exactly portable.

Smoothies seemed like the logical choice, but I didn’t want the sugar.  What’s more, I really wanted to get into the habit of starting my day off right.  That;s why I was so stoked to find Simple Green Smoothies:

S51tlsfZ1G-L._SX258_BO1,204,203,200_imple Green Smoothies offers easy, delicious, and (most importantly) nutritious smoothie recipes that incorporate both fruits and vegetables.  I found this to be ideal since 1) I’m not a huge fan of veggies, 2) you can make these ahead of time, and 3) the book really educated me on what fruits and vegetables can do for overall health and wellness.

Other reasons you should buy this book:

  • Recipes come with clear instructions
  • They have a 10-day kickstart (which I’m on now!) that comes complete with a grocery shopping list (which is super freakin’ helpful) to make this lifestyle change possible
  • The book really is educational.  It teaches you how to properly blend your smoothies, proper fruit/vegetable storage, how to clean your vegetables, etc.
  • The book also provides you with different types of smoothies (simple, energy, low-sugar, fitness, etc.) – not just flavors

I am currently on Day #2 of the 10-day Kickstart and I’m surprised by how much I enjoy the recipes.  I’ll be doing some follow-up posts on my progress with the kickstart!

Additionally, the Simple Green Smoothies blog, Instagram, and Facebook pages come with great recipes, pictures, tips, and tricks.  It’s available for $14.87 from Amazon.

*Please note that I was not compensated by Simple Green Smoothies to provide an opinion on their product.
